Heath Astill

Heath Astill, Construction Coordinator, Ausco

What is your role and how long have you worked for Algeco? I’m a construction coordinator for Ausco Modular in Brisbane having started working here 6 years ago as a site supervisor. My role is to manage a small construction team completing site installations. This includes planning approvals, the build itself, connection to services and finally any external landscaping.

What is the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? My role is very rewarding and fast-paced. Our business is about creating the right space solution for our customers, whatever their needs. Building a relationship with customers is important, and so I encourage my team to engage and interact with customers regularly. I really enjoy seeing the project go from planning, right through to completion. On day one, we have a blank canvass and by the end of the week we have created a fully operational space where the customer can live, work or learn.

Did you have any specific training for your role at Algeco? Because of the nature of my role, I have taken part in additional training including a Low Rise Builders License, Supervisors Licence, Contractors Licence, Carpentry Licence, as well as HSE qualifications such as CPR and First Aid.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? It’s enjoyable, safe, rewarding, supportive and a good team of people to work with.

Lee Thomas

Lee Thomas, Area Sales Manager, Elliott

What is your role and how long have you worked for Algeco? I recently joined Elliott UK as an Area Sales Manager, working for the hire division in the UK.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? Since starting at Elliott UK, my line manager has provided a great induction timetable, making my first month really impactful for meeting people and building new relationships Elliott UK is the one company I have worked for that actually embraces the use of IT to provide an effective support system for us to do the best job we can. I have a lot of scope to get the best results from using SalesForce, Glenigans and LinkedIn to support my sales activities.

Did you have any specific training for your role at Algeco? Since joining, I have received a raft of training, including sales training, system training and product training. I have also been paired up with different staff members for site visits, commercial visits and general customer visits.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? I would describe it as an organisation that is results-driven, transparent, and focused. It’s a happy office environment where you have the opportunity to showcase your skills. I really appreciate the trust that the company places in its sales team. Our KPI monitoring is transparent so you know where to focus and what you have to do. I would compare it to being an F1 driver with a skilled team of staff supporting your win!

Makayla Smith

Makayla Smith, Drafter & Designer, Ausco

What is your role and how long have you worked for Algeco? I’m a Designer and Drafter at Ausco Modular, working within Shared Operations which is a nationwide resource for the business. I joined Ausco immediately after graduating in Building Design. We undertake large design projects, for example the design of sporting facilities. My day revolves around completing architectural drawings for tenders and working with our procurement teams on current projects.

What is the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? The most enjoyable part of my working day is collaborating within and outside of my team. I’m very lucky, as a graduate, to be a part of a team that fully supports and embraces new technologies. We collaborate within regions and the larger Algeco group to support the future of design and innovation within Algeco. It’s a very exciting company to be involved in.

Did you have any specific training for your role at Algeco? On top of my formal qualifications (Bachelor of Urban Development and a Diploma of Building Design) the company has provided further training by building suppliers and building certifiers. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel to the regions as a subject matter expert on architectural visualisation software to conduct training sessions.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? I’m fortunate in my role to have a strong mentoring team which has allowed me to put my previous years of education into practice. I have been given unique opportunities such as early client engagement, learning and implementing new technologies, travelling interstate to train my peers and getting involved in large scale projects.

Natasha Leighton, Site Manager, Elliott

What is your role and how long have you worked for Algeco Group? I’m a site manager at Elliott UK’s hire site at Thurrock in Essex, UK and I’ve been working here for 4 and a half years.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? I love coming in each day to the team at Thurrock. I find the passion, commitment and drive shown throughout the business refreshing. Our people are always willing to learn and share best practice no matter what role they hold within the team. No day is ever the same and we are constantly evolving and improving. As Site Manager, I’m able to connect with all aspects of the business and work on making my site a better place to work.

Did you have any training for your role at Algeco? When I started with Algeco, I completed a 2-week induction to get a full overview of the business, sites and in-house systems. Since then, I have completed regular training courses to help improve my managerial skills as well as gain a greater understanding of my team’s operational requirements to ensure their safety. These qualifications include IOSH, Abrasive Wheels, COSHH, Manual Handling, Forklift Training and Working at Heights. I have also completed the company’s tailored Leadership Development Program and recently been part of the Mentor Training for the Leadership Academy.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? Algeco is a business with many opportunities. I’ve always been impressed by its commitment to ensuring diversity across the organisation and it is a company that promotes based on ability without discrimination, seeing potential in its employees and encouraging progression.

Koziol Przemyslaw

Koziol Przemyslaw, Branch Operations Manager, Poland

What is your role and how long have you been working at Algeco? I’m a Branch Operations Manager for Algeco Poland and have been working here since 2008. I manage the development of the on-site team.

What is the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? I find it highly satisfying to know that I am having a real impact on the operations of the unit. I enjoy using my management skills and observing the professional and personal development of the team members. It’s great to see that many have risen through the ranks and are now team leaders themselves.

Looking back on my last 11 years, the combination of dynamic changes in operations whilst maintaining the stability of the business has been a very positive achievement for me and allowed me to plan my career path within Algeco.

Did you have any training for your role at Algeco? Algeco supports employees in gaining new skills and qualifications - I completed a post-graduate diploma in Lean Management focusing on lean tools we used in the refurbishment centre. Most recently, I have taken part in several internal courses on health and safety, which is a priority at Algeco.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? Algeco Poland is a perfect place for individuals who want to have a real impact. It is also a place for people who want to grow and develop within the company. Algeco offers opportunities for career progression - I started many years ago as a cost controller, then became a technical manager in the Refurbishment Centre, and now I manage the operations in Poznan.

Sherree McKenzie, Operations Manager, Ausco

What is your role and how long have you been working at Algeco? I’m Operations Manager for Victoria and Tasmania and I’ve been working for Algeco’s Ausco Modular Hire operation for 2 years, based in Dandenong, South Victoria.

What is the most enjoyable part of your working day at Algeco? I wake up every morning wanting to come to work, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work somewhere that I enjoy so much. A key role is Health and Safety in and around the workplace. This could be at a depot or off-site. I take pride in ensuring that we stay focused on continual improvement in the safety culture and processes within the business. Equally, keeping our customer at the centre of everything we do, is critical to our success. My role is to manage their expectations, as well as balancing budgets and operational costs

Did you have any specific training for your role at Algeco? We have a strong focus on training. When I started I took part in a month of intense one-to-one training. We also receive training on an ongoing basis, as new initiatives or policies are rolled out. It is a continual learning process.

How would you describe working at Algeco to other potential employees? This is a company that really cares about their people. It is a supportive and friendly environment that encourages both team and individual development. My manager encompasses everything that our values expect, he is very engaging and supportive. It is a great team environment.
